Romsey Mill

Annual Review

We were commissioned earlier this year to design and produce the 2011/2012 Annual Review. Having worked closely with the marketing department to produce a "different" publication we are full of admiration for what Dr Sentamu refers to as "something special".

The Annual Review describes the work of Romsey Mill and its impact on the local community during the previous year. It has, in the past, been an informative document rather than a call to action. The objectives for this year were, to keep supporters engaged, move supporters from passive to active engagement, generate donations and document last year's work.

The target audience is made up of volunteers, donors, parents of young people on the programmes, friends and contacts as well as churches, schools, colleges and local businesses. The task was to present the document in a more informal, friendly manner in contrast to the formal approach of previous years with prominent "calls to action" and a distinctive theme running through.

Picking up on comments from the Chair of Trustees, Malcolm Wylie, regarding the "diverse and complementary strands of our work", we translated these words into a strong theme of coloured ribbons, or strands, coming together to a pivotal point, with the strapline "Stronger Together".

The visual link runs through the document with a different coloured strand for each area of activity. To further create an informal feel the pages have a pale hessian background with hand written messages and photographs in the form of a noticeboard or scrap book. On each spread a prominent "Post it Note", provides the call to action for donations or volunteer activity. An eight page centre foldout section presents the full years activities in an illustrated calendar format.
